Sound & Soma: Harness the therapeutic power of your voice

with Cordelia Zafiropulo

Embark on a transformative journey with this six-week Neuro-Sensory Voice Work (NSVW) series. It is designed for those seeking to deepen their connection to body and voice, enhance emotional resilience, and use sound as a tool for healing. Starting with foundational principles, you’ll build awareness of bodily sensations and learn how sound can ground and orient you.

Over the course of six weeks, you’ll explore techniques for soothing chronic anxiety, harnessing the transformative power of rhythm, and safely exploring the energy of healthy aggression. You will also dive into the emotive richness of pure vowels and conclude with an exploration of the connection between voice and sensuality. Each session is practical, experiential, and designed to provide tools you can integrate into both personal and professional practices.

Neuro-Sensory Voice Work: A Trauma-Informed Modality

NSVW is grounded in an understanding of Polyvagal Theory, which includes the more primitive and complex hierarchical responses of the nervous system. We apply this theory to voice work as a crucial component that ensures a gentle, accessible method for healing and self-expression.

For those who find breathwork challenging, voice can become a bridge to self-regulation, helping participants explore emotions, release tension, and access their core vitality. The trauma-informed nature of this work ensures a safe and paced approach, making it ideal for personal growth or professional integration.

Cordelia will be delivering the Sound & Soma events at the Minster Centre 10.00am to 5.00pm for six consecutive Saturdays (36 hours total training), from 5 July 2025 to 9 August 2025. Together, they offer:

  • Deepened Embodiment and Enhanced Interoception

Gain a stronger connection to your body and sense of self through vocal practices, developing the ability to sense and respond to internal bodily cues. This heightened awareness fosters greater presence and groundedness.

  • Building Trauma Resilience Through Titration

Discover tools to titrate the expression of your emotional experiences—breaking them into manageable, bite-sized pieces—so you can gently expand your nervous system’s capacity to handle challenges. You’ll develop confidence and resilience, navigating life’s ups and downs with greater ease and self-assurance.

  • A Comprehensive Foundation for Sound Work

This six-week series offers a solid introduction to using the voice as a therapeutic tool. Gain both practical skills and embodied understanding, equipping you with the knowledge needed to integrate vocal work into your personal and professional practices.

Join the full six-week course, or take individual sessions.

The weekly sessions are:

Saturday 5 July – Exploring the connection to self

This workshop introduces the foundational principles of Neuro-Sensory Voice Work (NSVW), essential for working with the voice in a trauma-informed environment. Highly recommended as a starting point, this first module provides an in-depth exploration of these principles and their application, empowering you to integrate them into your daily life as well as into your private practice.

Saturday 12 July – How to calm your nervous system even if you feel chronic anxiety

This second week focuses on calming the nervous system, even if you experience chronic anxiety. Through gentle vocal explorations, you’ll discover how to use sound and vibration to soothe anxiety and access states of profound relaxation.

Saturday 19 July – Explorations into Rhythm and Pace

In this module you’ll delve into the transformative power of rhythm. The workshop will explore how and why rhythmic incantations have been used across cultures, highlighting their benefits and practical applications. Participants will learn how repetitive rhythms help disrupt habitual thought patterns and self-referential loops, allowing the mind to access new perspectives and foster a deeper sense of presence.

Saturday 26 July: Healthy Aggression & Your Jaw*

The fourth Saturday of this series dives into the transformative potential of working with healthy aggression. This workshop offers a safe and supportive environment to explore the energy of supressed anger and to examine how our relationships to it shapes our physical and energetic well-being.

Saturday 2 August – The Pure Vowels Sounds

Week 5 of this transformative series invites you to explore the power of pure vowels, the feminine element of expression. The five vowels bring depth, colour, and saturation to expression, while also acting as a conduit for e-motion (energy in motion).

Saturday 9 August – Pleasurable Sounds & Sounds for Pleasure*

On this last Saturday you’ll get to explore the deep connection between pleasure and your voice. Through practical exercises, you’ll reconnect with the primal, instinctual utterances that bypass the rational mind.

*Due to the sensitive nature of these practical explorations, Healthy Aggression & Your Jaw and Pleasurable Sounds & Sounds for Pleasure are only offered as part of the series, ensuring a safe space for participants within the framework.

About Cordelia

Cordelia Zafiropulo is the Founder of Neuro-Sensory Voice Work (NSVW), a pioneering therapeutic modality that integrates the ancient wisdom found in the art of bel canto singing with trauma-informed principles rooted in Polyvagal Theory. With over two decades of international experience in opera and voice, and more than 30 years dedicated to breath work, she has developed a deeply attuned approach to vocal embodiment and self-expression.

Cordelia works with therapists, trauma survivors, singers in crisis, sound healers, and individuals seeking to reconnect to their voice and self. Her approach is highly relational, recognizing the voice as both a reflection of and a gateway to deeper awareness, regulation, and transformation. The voice is not just an instrument of expression but a relational tool and a means of accessing awareness, shaping how we engage with ourselves and others. By tuning into vocal prosody—the tone, pace, and subtle inflections—Cordelia helps you unlock the emotional truths embedded in your voice, revealing the deeper layers of your emotional landscape.
